The Center for Health Statistics is responsible for issuing certified copies of vital records, including birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates for events that occurred in Oregon. The office has birth and death records dating from July, 1903; marriage records from 1906 and divorce certificates (not decrees) from 1925. These certificates are the legal records documenting a vital event. Information from these vital events and other surveys is used as a source of data for informing public health policy and planning throughout the state and country.
These brochures were designed as a tool that can be shared as an aid to understanding the important role of birth and death certificates today.
