Population increased 50,000, or 1.6 percent over 1994.
LIVE BIRTHS RESIDENTS
Number increased by 883. Crude rate remained unchanged from 1994, the lowest since 1935. The fertility rate increased slightly. NUMBER 42,715 CRUDE RATE 13.6 FERTILITY RATE 62.3
MARRIAGES OCCURRENCE
Marriages up in number by 98. Rate decreased slightly. NUMBER 25,292 RATE 8.1
DIVORCES OCCURRENCE
Number of divorces decreased by 555. Rate decreased by 3.9 percent. NUMBER 15,289A RATE 4.9
UNMARRIED MOTHERS RESIDENTS
Proportion of births to unmarried mothers increased 0.7 percent. Proportion of unmarried mothers to total births highest ever. Proportion has increased 16 years in a row. NUMBER 12,350 RATIO 289.1
LOW BIRTHWEIGHT INFANTS RESIDENTS
Number of low birthweight infants increased by 128. Rate increased by 3.6 percent. NUMBER 2,345 RATE 54.9
INDUCED ABORTIONS OCCURRENCE
The number of reported abortions increased by 687, an increase of 5.1 percent. The abortion ratio increased by 2.7 percent. NUMBER 14,079 RATIO 315.6
Crude birth, death, marriage, and divorce rates are per 1,000 population; fertility rate per 1,000 15-44 year old females; unmarried mother ratio and low birthweight rate, per 1,000 live resident births; induced abortion ratio per 1,000 live occurrence births.
