Healthy Activities

The goal of the Oregon Health Authority's Arthritis Program is to reduce the impact of arthritis in Oregon through a public health approach, working in collaboration with partners in the public and private sectors.

The Arthritis Program has worked closely with the Arthritis Network (formerly known as the Arthritis Coalition) to craft a statewide Action Plan that can be used as a template for future planning.

The plan's goal is to expand awareness, education and resources to everyone in Oregon and touch as many people's lives as possible.

May is National Arthritis Month!

Arthritis affects 760,000 Oregonians and continues to be the most comon cause of disability in the United States.  This year's them is "Change the Course of Arthritis," and is aimed at increasing awareness of the important things people with arthritis can do to live well.

Physical activity is the arthritis pain reliever.  Exercise can reduce the impact of arthritis and reduce pain and activity limitations.  Moderate physical activity (e.g., walking, biking, or swimming) or 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week (or 150 minutes per week), reduces joint pain and stiffness in 4-6 weeks, and can be done in increments of as little as 10 minutes at a time.  Exercise programs also help those who have obesity, diabetes, or heart disease manage these conditions and improve their quality of life.  Please click on Programs and Classes to find resources in your area.

Our Partners

The Oregon Arthritis Network has been focusing their goals toward improving the lives of people with arthritis and also addressing those who are at risk for developing arthritis. Looking at the generational spectrum of people's lives is important for the prevention and proper treatment of arthritis. The idea is to create new possibilities of resources and joint partnerships to provide successful educational tools and programs in Oregon.
