What is the purpose of the Coordinating Committee?

  • Implement the Oregon Comprehensive Cancer Plan.
  • Coordinate the work of all OPCC committees and provide a forum for cross-committee work.
 Goal:
Promote universal access to health care and continuity of cancer care services for all.
 Priority:
Colorectal Cancer prevention and early detection continues to be the number one.

Colorectal Health Task Force

What is the purpose of the Colorectal Health Task Force?

  • Promote screening for colorectal cancer, the #1 priority of the coalition
  • Promote screening through a multi-dimensional approach:
    • Statewide and local earned media
    • Public and provider education
    • Community mobilization for local problem solving action


 Goal:       To reduce deaths from colorectal cancer.
 Objective:   To increase the percentage of Oregonians age 50 and over who have had an annual Fecal occult Blood Test (FOBT) and a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy within the last 5 years.

Breast Health Task Force

What is the purpose of the Breast Health Task Force?

  • Bring together organizations with a common vision and mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease
  • Promote collaborative activities to increase breast cancer screening and reduce deaths among women in Oregon
  • Promote healthy lifestyle and breast cancer risk reduction
  • Increase appropriate screening by decreasing the barriers that keep women from getting screened
  • Track progress toward the goal of reducing the number of deaths from breast cancer among Oregon women, which is set forth in the Oregon Comprehensive Cancer Plan 2005-2010

 Goal:  Reduce the number of deaths from breast cancer among Oregon women.
 Objective:  Increase screening by promoting culturally-appropriate and effective breast health education and outreach to medically underserved women in rural areas, women with disabilities and healthcare providers in Oregon.

Treatment and Survivorship

What is the purpose of the Cancer Surveillance and Analysis Workgroup (CSAW)?

  • Provide a forum to address data and evaluation issues related to OPCC and the cancer plan
  • Provide technical assistance to OPCC workgroups and Coordinating Committee about tracking progress toward cancer plan objectives and overall evaluation of OPCC
  • Establish linkages and communication channels with other organizations that collect data related to cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, survivorship and end of life
 

 Goal:  Fully implement cancer surveillance - the collection, analysis, dissemination and utilization of cancer information - for Oregon's Comprehensive Cancer Plan.
 Objectives: Identify at least one measurable indicator for all cancer plan objectives; develop and enact a plan to track all indicators identified in the cancer plan.
