As the Labor Day weekend approaches, Oregonians should remain vigilant in protecting themselves and animals from mosquitoes and the diseases they can carry, such as West Nile virus (WNv). WNv can cause encephalitis or meningitis.
WNv mosquito activity has been identified in Jackson, Morrow, Union, Klamath and Baker counties. Presumptive human cases have been reported in Malheur and Baker counties.
