Training Course Schedule
  • Designed for drinking water system operators, this one-day free course covers the basics of water system operation and maintenance, water testing and other regulations, waterborne disease, water treatment for small systems, and record keeping.  Also reviewed are the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments and the State Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund (SDWRLF), as well as water system security issues.
  • Classes in Table 1 (below) are scheduled from 9am-4pm (PT).  Upon course completion, attendees receive 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  This class also meets the training requirements for Small Water System Operator Certification.
  • Please contact the Oregon Association of Water Utilities (OAWU) (503-837-1212) for registration information and future class locations.  Mailings will go out by counties covered.  Class size will be limited to 40 people.  The current class schedule is listed in Table 1 below (please check frequently for updates).
  • Advanced Course. DWP has begun teaching an "advanced" course that is appropriate for operators who have completed the first SWSO Training Course two or more times. Like the Basics course, it is also a free one-day course that will meet the training requirement for recertification. However, the advanced class covers different material, such as how to shock chlorinate your system's components, complying with the Groundwater Rule, and best management practices for protecting your source of drinking water. Operators will use information from their own water systems for hands-on activities. The course will be taught four times this year by DWP staff. Unlike the original SWSO course, registration for the advanced course is handled by our Springfield DWP office at 541-726-2587 ext. 25. See the dates listed in Table 2 below.
  • PLEASE NOTE:  At the completion of either course, you will receive a certificate of attendance.  For small water system certification, please attach a photocopy of the certificate of attendance to the Small Water System Operator application (pdf), complete the application, and mail to the address listed on the application form.
