The Oregon Health Authority works with other government agencies to monitor any chemical leaks and spills that occur- and any resulting release of hazardous chemicals to the environment.
 
Oregon's Hazardous Substances Incident Surveillance (HSIS) system works to identify and describe any potential health effects associated with those leaks and spills. HSIS is one of seven states funded by the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry's (ATSDR) National Toxic Substance Incident Program (NTSIP) to perform state-based chemical release surveillance and accident prevention outreach.
