Environmental Health Investigations and Data

OHA works to understand the connection between environment and health.

Our environment consists of the air we breathe, the soil beneath our feet, the water we drink, the food we eat and the schools, buildings and homes where we spend our time. Our health can be a reflection of the environment we live in. When our land, water, air and food are healthy and safe, we are more likely to be the same. Environmental health investigations and data help us understand how we are affected by our environment.

 Environmental Health Investigations

Contaminated Sites

The Environmental Health Assessment program (EHAP) works with communities and agency partners to assess and prevent human exposure to contamination and hazardous waste found at Superfund and other contaminated sites.

Policy and Project Evaluation

The Health Impact Assessment (HIA) program evaluates policies, projects and programs to provide decision-makers with information about how community health and wellbeing may be affected.

Pesticide Investigations

The Pesticide Exposure, Safety and Tracking program (PEST) conducts pesticide surveillance of acute pesticide poisoning incidents in Oregon.

Cancer Rate Analyses

The Oregon State Cancer Registry (OSCaR) monitors overall rates and trends in cancer in the population in order to target and evaluate public health actions that can help all Oregonians. Under limited conditions, Cancer Registry data may be used to investigate concerns that an area may have higher than expected numbers of people with a certain cancer.

See Cancer Data Inquiries and Understanding Cancer Rate Analysis (pdf) for more information.
