Data Resources
There is a wealth of climate change-related data and resources available online. This section contains links to databases and reports with climate change data.

  • The CDC’s Environmental Public Health Tracking Network has developed indicators about the public health impacts of climate change. These are available down to the county level for Tracking states, and data can be accessed through maps, charts and graphs.
  • APHA’s most recent (4/11) guidebook on climate change and public health is a good introduction to climate change and public health issues, with data and graphs to illustrate its points. It also provides examples of public health institutions’ current plans to address the health outcomes of climate change, specifically California.
  • CAKE has a searchable database of case studies from around the United States related to climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.
  • The IPCC publishes reports and data on climate change from an international perspective.
  • NOAA’s Climate Program Office has funding opportunities, climate data, climate modeling programs, and other resources. Click on “Data and Products” to see their full range.
  • Another NOAA product is the Roadmap for Adapting to Coastal Risk, which is a process for evaluating a community’s coastal risk. More resources are available here.
  • The World Bank’s Climate Portal has worldwide data for a number of climate indicators, from maximum consecutive dry days to maximum rain in five-day periods. On the left hand side of the screen are a number of tools to use, from screening tools for projects to other databases with more data. A user’s guide is also included.
  • The Union of Concerned Scientists has created an interactive “Climate Hot Map” in which the Columbia River Basin is given as an example of climate change’s immediate effect on a region.
  • Cal-Adapt is a tool developed by the Public Interest Energy Research program that allows users to view raw data, climate projections by area, and climate charts for California. It tracks temperature, precipitation, snow pack, sea level rise, and wildfire risk. (Read the June 2011 press release for Cal-Adapt.)
  • TACCIMO is a web-based tool for visualizing climate change data created by the US Forest Service. View the Guide to using TACCIMO.
