About Oregon MothersCare (OMC)

Oregon MothersCare seeks to improve access to prenatal care for all people in Oregon. OMC started with five sites in January of 2000 and grew to twenty-five sites by 2018. In 2018, the program helped 3,283 people get pregnancy and prenatal information, help and services. OMC services are provided at Access Sites, typically local clinics or public health agencies. OMC Access Sites help connect pregnant people to the services they need for a healthy pregnancy. OMC sites provide these services to all clients free of charge.

OMC helps connect people with:

Who is eligible to participate in OMC?

  • Oregon Health Plan
  • Private insurance
  • CAWEM/CAWEX
  • No insurance

Early prenatal care is important because it:

  • Helps identify and take care of health problems before they become serious
  • Helps make sure your baby is growing well
  • Gives you the chance to ask questions and learn about your pregnancy
  • Helps you learn ways to feel better while you are pregnant

Many people do not get early prenatal care because they:

  • Do not know what services are available to them
  • Find ‘the system’ to access care confusing or overwhelming

OMC was created to help reduce these barriers to care for pregnant people.
