Level 2 Breastfeeding Training: A Journey Together
(previously called "Breastfeeding Basics")

  •  Location, registrations and reimbursements
  • This interactive Level 2 breastfeeding training is intended for WIC staff members who have already completed the online Level 1 Breastfeeding Course (2 modules).
  • Topics that are covered include the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding in WIC, helping mothers overcome common barriers to breastfeeding, communicating with families using participant-centered counseling techniques, the basics of milk production, managing early breastfeeding challenges, solutions for common breastfeeding problems, the appropriate use of breastfeeding aids, including breast pumps, navigating the first year of breastfeeding, and the weaning process. 
  • Maximum enrollment is 20, minimum of 8 WIC staff required to prevent class cancellation.
  • Note: Training may be cancelled if less than 8 WIC staff are registered. Staff who are registered for training will be notified one week prior to class date if training is cancelled.

 

 


Civil Rights Training

Oregon WIC staff are required to receive annual training on civil rights. See WIC Policy 452 for more information.

TWIST Clerical Training
(for WIC staff only)

  • Agencies can request reimbursement for travel and lodging.
  • This course will open with a brief overview of the WIC program and the services that WIC staffers provide for our participants.  This hands-on training will provide clerks and support staff the skills they need to navigate the TWIST system. On the first day, staff will learn to search for participants, update demographic information, and complete the intake and income screens.  By the end of the day, they will be able to schedule participants into a variety of appointments, as well as print the correct notices.  On the second day, staff will experience printing Food Instruments (FI) and problem solving of various FI issues.  Staff will leave the training able to perform transfers, change WIC ID numbers, terminate participants, and do temporary newborn certifications.
  • Note: Training may be cancelled if less than 4 staff are registered. Staff who are registered for training will be notified one week prior to class date if training is cancelled.

  

 

TWIST CPA Training
(for WIC staff only)

  • This course will open with a brief overview of the WIC program and the services that WIC staff provide for our participants. This hands-on training will provide new certifiers with skills they need to navigate the TWIST system.  Certifiers will be able to complete a certification and assign a food package using TWIST.  They will use TWIST to document information in a participant's record.  They will be able to select the appropriate nutrition education contact and make requests or schedule appointments.  They will understand their role in providing Food Instruments.  They will have a good overall understanding of how TWISTis used in the clinic to provide participant services.  This course serves as a good companion to the Nutrition Training Modules and on-the-job training.
