Collection
| Collection kits available on request (503-693-4114). Collect nasopharyngeal specimen using a Dacron tip swab on a flexible wire shaft and submit in a Regan-Lowe transport media. Specimens may be collected up to 3 weeks after onset of symptoms, as long as antibiotics have not been started. Transport
| Swabs should be transported on day of collection.
If transport is delayed, incubate for up to three days and then ship on wet ice. Note: If pre-incubation is not feasible, specimens should be stored refrigerated and then shipped on wet ice as soon as possible. | |
Rejection Criteria
| Leaking containers, non-nasopharyngeal specimens, unlabeled specimens, incomplete requisition forms or specimens not submitted in appropriate transport media. | |
