Specimen Collection Details

Collection

Actively growing isolates of E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter or other Gram negative species that meets the OHA CRE Case definition.  Submit isolates on an agar slant or plate media.

Handling

Seal plate or tube, place in biohazard transport bag; keep at ambient or refrigerator temperature. Do not freeze, avoid extreme heat. Submit specimen according to Infectious Substance Shipping Guidelines.

Rejection Criteria

Unlabeled or leaking specimens; incomplete requisition.

Comments
