The purpose of the Facilities Planning and Safety program is to support agency goals for public safety and health care cost containment, specifically as it relates to new and remodel construction.
Facilities Planning and Safety provides review of plans, consultation and project inspector services for facilities to be licensed and/or certified by OHA, Public Health or DHS Senior Services. These include all public and private general hospitals, nursing homes, residential care and assisted living facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, mental hospitals, dialysis facilities, special inpatient care facilities, hospice facilities and birthing centers.
Program objectives include:
- To ensure that newly constructed facilities provide safe, adequate care and lodging for persons who receive services therein;
- To minimize the need for costly changes and delays;
- To correct deficiencies in newly constructed facilities; and
- To promote cost containment through better programming, design and construction. These support agency goals of public safety and health care cost containment.
