AWARE

The Oregon Alliance Working for Antibiotic Resistance Education (AWARE) is a statewide coalition that promotes the appropriate use of antibiotics.

We educate the public and supporting health providers in making judicious prescribing decisions. The partnership includes physicians, healthcare providers, public health agencies, higher education representatives and consumer/community-based organizations.

Mission: Oregon AWARE encourages the appropriate use of antibiotics and aims to reduce the problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in Oregon. Read our mission statement (pdf).

Goals:

  1. To raise public awareness about the importance of 1using antibiotics wisely.
  2. To encourage Oregon’s physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners to appropriately prescribe antibiotics.
  3. To enlist the aid of community-based organizations to reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics and promote self-care for viral illnesses.

The AWARE program is part of the Acute and Communicable Disease Prevention Program (ACDP) in the Office of Disease Prevention and Epidemiology.
