Prescription Drug Monitoring Program

This new program called the Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) will help health care providers and pharmacists provide patients better care in managing their prescriptions. They will now have more complete information to help assure appropriate use of certain prescribed medications.

Beginning June 1, 2011, pharmacies will contribute data to the program on certain prescription drugs dispensed to patients. The protected health information will be collected and stored securely. Unauthorized people cannot access individuals’ personal prescription records.

The program was started to help people work with their health care providers and pharmacists to know what medications are best for them.  The information will support the appropriate use of prescription drugs.
