Climate-Ready States and Cities Initiative
The Oregon Health Authority is one of five agencies across the country that received a grant from the CDC as part of the Climate-Ready States and Cities Initiative. This program is intended to help agencies address the public health effects of climate change related events.
Capacity-building projects differ from state to state and city to city and may include:
- Developing and improving climate change data through selected SEHIC Climate Change Indicators
- Developing programs and workshops to educate state agencies about climate change
- Improving partnerships between agencies
In Oregon, public health officials have:
- Conducted workshops
- Created presentations on preparing for climate change-related events in a public health context
- Established a mini-grant process for counties to implement their own climate change preparedness
