Youth Suicide Prevention Plan

cover imageYouth Suicide Intervention and Prevention Plan

This 5-year plan focuses on preventing suicide at the earliest ages where it begins to occur, among youth aged 10 to 24 years.

  • Oregon's Youth Suicide Intervention and Prevention Plan, 2021-2025. This document is not “the new” Youth Suicide Intervention and Prevention Plan (YSIPP). The YSIPP 2021–2025 represents and honors the incredible work done for years by suicide prevention champions across Oregon. This plan is the natural continuation of that work. It continues many initiatives we know are working. It captures the lessons we have learned over five years and lays out a vision for what else we must address to keep moving toward health and wellness for Oregon’s youth. While the YSIPP 2021–2025 has some new and innovative pieces, it is firmly rooted in rich soil. The Oregon Heatlh Authority (OHA) is working with partners to build out the strategic pathways in Oregon's suicide prevention framework. Learn more about priority work planned for 2023.

Annual Reports

In addition to the 5-year plan above, Oregon publishes an annual report that includes updates on key priorities, data, and strategies for addressing youth suicide in Oregon.

Prevention in Schools

Oregon School Suicide Protocol Toolkitcover image

While there are many excellent tools and resources related to suicide protocols in schools, this toolkit has been specifically designed to support a school system (Education Service District, District, School) in Oregon to develop a comprehensive suicide protocol.

The toolkit includes example processes and templates from school communities in Oregon, information regarding relevant laws related to suicide and schools, as well as stories of work happening across the state.

The aim of the toolkit is to help schools in Oregon address the issue of suicide from prevention and intervention to postvention (in the aftermath of a suicide in the school community) and demonstrating how protocols can support each component.

For access to toolkit templates in Word format, contact us.
