Oregon's Vaccines For Children Program (VFC)

The Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) is a federally funded program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who might not otherwise be vaccinated because of inability to pay.

This federally funded program helps families by providing vaccines at no cost to enrolled public and private medical practices - who then can offer them at no charge to qualified patients (birth through age 18). This allows providers to make all routine pediatric vaccines available to eligible children without high out-of-pocket costs.

To be eligible for VFC, a child must fit one of these categories:

  • Enrolled in Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan
  • Uninsured
  • American Indian/Alaskan Native

Children whose health insurance policies do not cover some or all vaccines, or only cover vaccines until a child reaches a certain age (i.e. considered “underinsured”), may receive no cost immunizations at public sites such as  county health department clinics and clinics that are designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or a Rural Health Clinic (RHC).

Providers must enroll to participate in the VFC program.  Instructions for both public and private providers can be found here.

VFC clinic materials

Oregon provides  documents and materials to clinics at the time of their initial enrollment with the VFC Program. These materials contain the information a provider needs to make sure they are in compliance with VFC program requirements and other helpful resources for running a strong immunization program.

We encourage all providers to regularly check this site to make sure they have the most current versions of these documents in use at their clinic.

How to order vaccine

Recertification

VFC providers must be recertified annually.
