The EMS & Trauma Systems Section and the Oregon Office of Rural Health have extended their demonstration project which provides an electronic prehospital data collection system to rural EMS agencies. The project will last at least through June 30, 2011.
An Oregon EMS agency can choose either of two versions of the system.
The “ State Bridge” version is Web-based. The EMT needs to be at a computer with internet access in order to complete the electronic Patient Care Report. The report can be printed for back up and billing.
The “ Field Bridge” version resides on a laptop, preferably one with touch-screen capability. The EMT can enter one or more charts without needing Web access. At some point, the laptop is connected to the internet and the records will be uploaded to the Web database. Printed copies can also be produced.
Using either system, reports can be run for the EMS agency's Medical Director or EMS Chief. These reports show call volumes, response times, success rates for invasive procedures, and similar measures of agency activities and skills. They can be used to improve training and making equipment decisions for the service.
All data is protected according to the requirements of HIPAA and similar statutes.
