Measles

In January, 2013, there were three cases of measles confirmed in Marion County, imported from a child who caught the virus overseas. More information.

In 2013, as of April 20, there have been 55 cases of measles in the U.S. All of them were import-associated from Ukraine, India, Israel, Sudan, UK, Pakistan, Mexico, Thailand. Indonesia, Republic of Georgia or Germany. Ninety-five percent of the cases were unvaccinated or vaccination status unknown,

There were 55 cases of measles in the U.S. in 2012, reported by 17 states; 78 percent of the cases were unvaccinated or had undocumented vaccine status. Twelve patients were hospitalized for measles in 2012. In 2011, Oregon had two measles cases in Hood River county and one in Multnomah county.

In 2012, there were four measles outbreaks in the U.S. accounting for 50 percent of cases: two imported from Ethiopia, one in Kansas and one in Central Indiana (associated with the Super Bowl); one in L.A. County, CA imported from the UK; and one in Arkansas imported from Romania. In 2011, there were 17 measles outbreaks in the U.S., which account for 51 percent of confirmed cases.

Mumps

So far in 2013, as of April 20, there have been 125 cases reported by 20 states.

In 2012, there were 189 cases of mumps in the U.S. reported in 38 states. Oregon had three cases of mumps in 2012. In 2011, there were four cases confirmed in Benton, Jackson, Linn and Multnomah counties. Nationally, in 2011, there were 370 cases reported by 40 states and D.C.

Pertussis

Oregon and Washington states both experienced a pertussis (whooping cough) epidemic in 2012. There is no change in recommendations, vaccination is still strongly recommended. Learn more.

In Oregon, there were 910 cases in 2012, compared with 320 cases during the same time in 2011. The case ages ranged from 8 days to 90 years; median age was 10 years old. Twenty-six infants were hospitalized; 24 of them were 3 months old or younger.
